Areas of Use

The Hettich Rotina 380/380R is a compact benchtop centrifuge with high performance and a space-saving design, developed for industrial laboratories requiring maximum flexibility. With nine available rotors and capacity for everything from 4 x 290 ml bottles to 144 sample tubes and 10 microplates, it covers an extremely wide range of applications.

Typical areas of use include:

  • Quality control and sample preparation in the food industry
  • Environmental analyses of water, soil and sediment samples
  • Separation and particle analysis in the chemical and materials technology industry
  • High throughput of microplates (MTP, DWP, PCR) in industrial analytical laboratories
  • Sample preparation for pharmaceutical production and quality control
  • Separation of emulsions, suspensions and colloids in production environments
  • Conical tube analyses with up to 52 x 15 ml per run
  • Industrial R&D applications requiring rapid switching between sample types

The Rotina 380R (with cooling) offers temperature control from -20°C to +40°C with a pre-cooling function, making it ideal for temperature-sensitive industrial processes.

Advantages

The Rotina 380/380R provides industrial operations with a compact and powerful benchtop centrifuge that takes up minimal space without compromising on performance.

Space-saving design with full performance With a footprint of just 457 x 600 mm (standard version), the Rotina 380 is one of the most compact centrifuges in its performance class. Yet it delivers 24,400 RCF and 15,000 RPM — identical to far larger models.

Nine rotors for maximum versatility Five swing-out rotors and four fixed-angle rotors cover everything from large 290 ml bottles and microplates to microlitre tubes. The most versatile swing-out rotor (1754) handles 144 sample tubes, 4 x 290 ml bottles or 8 x 94 ml containers in one and the same rotor.

Quiet operation With just 54 dB(A) with fixed-angle rotor 1760, the Rotina 380 is well suited for use in open industrial laboratories and production facilities where noise is a factor.

Available with and without cooling The Rotina 380 for standard applications and the Rotina 380R with integrated cooling from -20°C to +40°C with a pre-cooling function.

98 programmable memory positions Store and recall up to 98 centrifugation programmes with 9 acceleration levels and 10 deceleration levels, as well as short-cycle mode for rapid spin-downs.

IVDR-compliant Certified in accordance with EU Regulation 2017/746, qualifying it for use in regulated diagnostic and industrial environments.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The Rotina 380 is the standard version without cooling, while the 380R includes integrated cooling with a temperature range from -20°C to +40°C and a pre-cooling function. The 380R is deeper (750 mm vs. 600 mm) and heavier (81 kg vs. 51 kg) due to the cooling unit. Both models have identical centrifugation performance with a maximum of 15,000 RPM and 24,400 RCF.

The Rotina 380 is more compact (457 x 600 mm vs. 506 x 650 mm) and lighter (51 kg vs. 75 kg), but has a lower maximum capacity (4 x 290 ml vs. 4 x 600 ml). In return, the Rotina 380 offers more rotors (9 vs. 5), including a 6-place swing-out rotor not available on the Rotina 420. Both share the same maximum RCF (24,400) and speed (15,000 RPM). Choose the Rotina 380 if compactness and rotor flexibility are the priority, and the Rotina 420 if larger sample volumes are required.

With the main rotor (1754): up to 144 microlitre tubes, 96 sample tubes (4–7 ml), 52 x 15 ml conical tubes, 4 x 290 ml bottles, or 8 x 94 ml containers. With the 6-place swing-out rotor (1726): up to 102 small sample tubes. With the plate rotors: up to 10 microplates. With fixed-angle rotor 1789-A: 30 x 2 ml microlitre tubes at full 24,400 RCF.

Yes. The noise level is 54 dB(A) with the quietest rotors, which is equivalent to a normal conversation. Even with the swing-out rotors at high speed, the noise level is 55–60 dB(A), which is still acceptable for most industrial environments.

Yes. Two dedicated plate rotors are available: rotor 1760 (up to 10 plates at 2,397 RCF) and rotor 1770 (up to 10 plates at 3,926 RCF with bioseal lid). Both handle MTP, DWP, PCR plates and PCR strips.

The Rotina 380 has a footprint of just 457 x 600 mm and weighs only 51 kg — making it one of the most compact centrifuges with 24,400 RCF on the market. By comparison, the Rotanta 460 (with the same RCF) measures 554 x 706 mm and weighs 101 kg. The Rotina 380 therefore takes up approximately 30% less bench space.
